A COURSE WORTH KNOWING

IN THE HEART of the northwoods.

The Lac Vieux Desert Golf Course opened its first nine holes in 1998, designed by Mattingly Kuehn Golf Design, after two years of construction. A second nine, designed by Bob Lohmann and Todd Quitno, was completed in 2008, bringing the course to its full 18 holes.

Sprawled over 200 acres of the Ottawa National Forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the course was designed with all levels of golfers in mind. USGA greens averaging 6,200 square feet are grown with Penn Links bent grass, giving them a glass-like smoothness and ball-bearing speed. Each hole offers four elevated tees, generous fairways planted in rich blue grasses, and roughs that reward discipline.

Five ponds and a seasonal creek system thread the course; two of the ponds support area restocking programs for trout and walleye. With woodlands surrounding play on every side, golfers regularly share the course with deer, birds, squirrels, and the occasional bear.

It's a course that takes the northwoods seriously, and asks the same of the golfer.

THE BENEFICIARY

THE WILLIAMS 7G Foundation.

"Building on the strength of our ancestors to mold the next seven generations of Native leaders, through education, athletics, culture, and real-world support."

The Williams 7G Foundation began with a simple idea from Chairman Williams: give young people a way to access opportunity, and give the Tribe's vendors a way to give back. What started as a way to fund scholarships and youth athletics has grown into a platform that supports food pantries, the VFW, youth racing programs, and community causes both inside and outside Indian Country.

The 7G itself carries deep meaning, it began with seven young Native athletes who became the first Indigenous ambassadors to the NFL in 2017, and it stands for the seven generations of leaders to come and the gifts the Creator has given each of them. Every dollar raised at the Chairman's Invitational supports that mission.

FLAGSHIP PROGRAM

Community First.

The Williams 7G Foundation channels every dollar raised back into the people and programs that make up our community, across the Tribe and across the surrounding communities that share this corner of the Upper Peninsula.

MISSION PILLARS

  • Scholarships for college students
  • Youth athletics & sports programs
  • Food pantries & community organizations
  • Youth racing, arts & activities
  • Veterans groups including the VFW
